Phase III

After success of metro phase I and II, work for phase III is on full swing which will take metro around the entire city. While metro now is a part of life for so many Delhites, a lot of people still don't have easy access to the metro. But now, with phase 3, metro is going to reach all those people.

The new Phase III is a 105 km network and would cover Yamuna Vihar-Mukundpur corridor, which will be the longest line in the Delhi Metro network that will cover around 55.9 kms. The major stations on this route will be Mukundpur, Rajouri Garden, Dhaula Kaun, Anand Vihar and culminate at Yamuna Vihar. It will also cover outer area like the Bawana and the inner most circle like the Jamia Nagar, which is a very congested area.

The HUDA city center to central secretariat line will be extended to the Red Fort. The best thing about the Phase III metro is that it will have 23 interchangeable stations for seamless connectivity. Now this is going to be a significant achievement for the Delhi Metro and a great relief for commuters.

Apart from this, another addition is the coverage of the Jamia Milia University that will extend from the Nehru place and go up to cover the outer Ring road. It is supposed to be a busy line with the university and school students commuting daily on this route. Kalkaji is the interchange station here and will be beneficial to the commuters who are largely students.

Talking about the violet line i.e. from Central Secretariat to Badarpur, is going to be extended from both ends providing easy travelling to Faridabad. With a length of 43.21 km, this line will have 32 stations- 21 elevated and 11 underground and 5 interchangeable stations at : Mandi House, Central Secretariat, Kashmere Gate, Kalkaji and Lajpat Nagar. This will provide direct connectivity from kashmiri gate to Faridabad and ease rush at Rajiv Chowk and Kashmiri Gate.

The extension from Badarpur to Fridabad will include 9 stations : Sarai, NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur, Sector 27A, Badkal Mor, Old Faridabad, Ajronda, Faridabad New Town and YMCA Chowk.

From the other end, the line is being extended from Central Secretariat to Kashmere Gate via Mandi House. This 9.37-km underground corridor will have seven upcoming stations at Janpath, Mandi House, ITO, Delhi Gate, Jama Masjid, Red Fort and Kashmere Gate.

At Mandi House, the line will provide interchange with the Dwarka-Noida-Anand Vihar corridor, while at Kashmere Gate it will provide connectivity to the Dilshad Garden-Rithala corridor.

At Central Secretariat, the corridor will connect with the Jahangirpuri-HUDA City Centre line, while at Kalkaji, it will provide transition to the upcoming Janakpuri to Botanical Garden Corridor. At Lajpat Nagar, the line will connect with the longest proposed corridor of Delhi Metro i.e. Mukundpur to Yamuna Vihar, which is currently under construction.

So, by 2016, Delhites are going to get access to almost entire Delhi and better reach to NCR region.
